Jozini Cycad Conservation

ACT received funding from the UNDP through the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme in May 2013 to protect vulnerable Jozini Cycads in KwaZulu-Natal. The project will see the implementation of conservation measures over the existing cycad populations, which will include the micro chipping of cycads that are at heightened risk, and the establishment of cycad nurseries that will be linked to a propagation programme to re-populate cycads in the wild. The project will incorporate members from the local community and the cycad nurseries will potentially become an income generation initiative for the community.
